The Urban Renewal Project of the Shared Prosperity administration of His Excellency the Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has continued to surpass projected impact on traffic situation in the state. What looked like a joke to some quarters is now celebrated by those who made jest of the project.
One of the roundabouts that has been reconstructed under the project is the Fire Service Junction. Prior to flagging off the project, this Junction which handles traffic from Umuahia via Mbaise inward Owerri and also, from Aba via Ngor Okpala inward Owerri, had been a nightmare to motorists with hours been spent at the round about.
Today, with the construction of the Junction with traffic markings; installation of traffic lights and CCTV cameras – all powered by Solar System, the Junction has been greatly improved with full functionality and this has effectively been handling the traffic seamlessly.
Quite unlike before and even at the present within the old traffic light installations, motorists within the state now adhere to and observe traffic rules – truly, “ihe di mma, di mma” and Uzodimma “mere ya”!. The economic impact of this project can never be overemphasized having two major markets (Relief and Eke Ukwu Owerri) linked to it.
