Imo State Government set to recruit graduates to revive agricultural sector in the state

Posted on August 24, 2021 By thTV Admin, Owerri No Comments on Imo State Government set to recruit graduates to revive agricultural sector in the state

The Shared Prosperity Government of Senator Hope Uzodimma is set to contribute in the food security and at the same time alleviate poverty in the land by initiating Programmes and Projects that will create employments for the vulnerable women and youths in the state. This will be done through Training, Advocacy, Research, Entrepreneurship, Leadership Development, Information Technology and Partnership designed to increase the productivity and profitability of Agricultural Sector in Imo State.

To this end, Governor Hope Uzodimma has moved to revive some integrated farms in the state like Achara-Ubo Farm in Emekukwu, Adapalm Plantation in Ohaji Egbema, Imo Songhai Farm in Nekede and the Avutu Poultry farm in Obowo. Graduates are to be recruited in agriculture and related deciplines through the Imo State Civil Service Commission to boast food productions and bumper harvest in the state.

This will promote agriculture in Imo State, especially among women and youths, which will improve the livelihood and health of the state through agricultural development as well as improve literacy among our children especially the rural farmers.

The Governor has advocated for a massive campaign to encourage graduates and youths participation in agriculture, which will advance programmes and projects that will attract investors (business man, pensioners, working class and young elites) to invest in agriculture.

However, the graduates when recruited will organize educational and training programs e.g, workshops, symposiums, seminars, on-site practical training etc, on farming, livestock production, processing, marketing and other agriculture activities. They will also establish demonstration farms for the domestication of modern technologies in crop farming and livestock production.

Moreover, Government is ready to secure parcels of land from communities so as to engage the youth of the respective communities in agricultural production by  providing advisory services to prospective investors in agriculture, assisting young farmers in acquiring needed skills and equally equipping them with necessary information on cultivation, harvesting, storage, animal production as well as processing, marketing and sales of their farm produce.

Government of Senator Hope Uzodimma will also provide young farmers with agricultural inputs such as tractors, herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers and train young farmers on livestock and fish production, providing technical and financial supports and equally helping them in getting necessary inputs for optimal livestock production at a very affordable of highly subsidized rate.

Furthermore, the graduates will assist the state government in sourcing for improved breeds of various species of livestock and may provide veterinary/extension services and other necessary supports for successful livestock farming. Government will also establish and provide storage facilities for the young farmers whenever circumstances arises and assist the young farmers in marketing and sales of their produce. They will assist local and foreign agro-based industries in sourcing for raw materials thus providing the needed link between the farmers and the users or consumers of their produce.

Finally, the graduates when recruited will  establish farms to employ and engage the vulnerable and the less privilege in the society e.g. widows, disable and physically challenged people to establish agro industries to process and produce food for our local market and export, which will help burst the economy of the state.
