The popular and lone surviving road network that leads to the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) is in a state of disrepair for the past couple of months.
The irony is that this same road also leads to the Federal Polytechnic Nekede via the Port Harcourt Road axis and exit to Aba and Egbu/Umuahia axis.
FUTO staff and members of the host communities are growing under this challenge, the University management has tried to bring succor to the road users by providing .palliative remediation on the road to no avail.
The latest efforts by the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA)in maintenance of the road is a welcome development, but a lot needs to be done.
The state government is implored to come to the aid of the people using this road to help with it’s maintenance and possible reconstruction of the failed Port Harcourt expressway end of the road.
This clarion call has become necessary because because of the rainy season when the road is practically impassable with massive traffic congestion spanning kilometers.
