Hoodlums Disrupt Imo Workers Day Celebration, As Police, DSS, Civil Defence Watch Helplessly

Sequel to the sponsored factionalization of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC in Imo State, hoodlums suspected have been instigated from above, yesterday stormed the venue where Imo Workers were celebrating this years Workers day.

The Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Imo State chapter, Comrade George Ofoegbu who disclosed this in a telephone conversation with this reporter, said, ‘’it is unfortunate that while Imo workers gathered in their numbers at Labour House, along Imo State University IMSU by Phindec road to celebrate this year’s workers day Mid way into the Chairman’s address, hoodlums numbering over 30 stormed the venue and disrupted the program for the second time.

Asked if he suspects any person or group for the disruption, he said, ‘’the fact that they did that in the presence of the police, DSS and other security personnel without being called to other means that the directive came from above.

Responding to a question the NLC Chairman said, ‘’the state government cannot be said to performed well until it pays all outstanding salaries of Imo workers, their pensions, gravities and also implement the minimum wage and its adjustment. The moment all these are done, we will score the state government hundred percent’’.

When asked if some states have implemented the minimum wage, he said ‘’over ninety percent of the states in the country have implemented it with the exception of Imo and two or three other states’’.
